9/5/2010 - Covenant Marriage

COVENANT MARRIAGE

In the strictest sense, a covenant marriage is for a lifetime and is designated by God to be so (“until death do us part”). The Arizona State Legislature created a choice for what is known as “covenant marriage” in 1998.  A couple planning to marry can commit to a “covenant” marriage. This commitment obligates a couple to attend counseling before getting married.  Additionally, should one of the spouses desire to divorce, they would be committed to counseling first.

Covenant marriage emphasizes the concept of commitment to the relationship of one man and one woman for one lifetime under God. Calvary Baptist Church is firmly committed to the sanctity of marriage and family as ordained by God in His Word. For this reason Sunday September 5, 2010 will be a special observance emphasizing covenant marriage. We are encouraging those who are already married to consider converting to covenant marriage thereby taking a stand for God’s Holy Institution. For those wishing to convert, a fee must be paid to the Clerk of the Superior Court. A written declaration similar to the one printed for unmarried couples must be submitted, as well as, a sworn statement listing the names, date, and location the ceremony was performed. These forms may be obtained on-line. You may also contact the church office at (928) 537-7555 or speak to Pastor Rick or Pastor Steve.
