A Christian Manifesto

      By: Dr. Francis A. Schaeffer

"It happened so subtly that few people noticed at first. Little by little, morality and freedom started to crumble. It came first in government, in education, in the media - and finally it began to shake our families and our own lives."

"Something fundamental has changed. Law and government no longer provide a foundation of justice and morality but have become the means of licensing moral perversions of all kinds. Education has become the enemy of religious truth and values. And the media have provided the means for propagating the change."

A Christian manifesto is literally a call for Christians to change the course of history by returning to biblical Truth and by allowing Christ to be Lord in all of life.

Angel with Crooked Feet

Angel with Crooked Feet chronicles the life of Tony Sarjant, born with a club foot to a mother who didn’t want him. He spent the first ten years of his life in and out of hospitals before his pre-teen life of petty crime landed him in a detention center for boys where he was sexually assaulted for years. As a teenager he discovered the dark world of the occult, a world he fully embraced as a young man. His first marriage seemed to be the start of a new, happier life, but after the births of his daughter and son he learned his wife was having an affair and that she was still married to another man! After his marriage ended, Tony’s life dissolved into years of drifting back and forth across Europe, punctuated by heavy drinking and several attempts at suicide, including the one that almost succeeded. Then, in his late 30s, he met the woman who would change his life, Denise, now his wife of more than 20 years. Through Denise, Tony’s life was saved by the power of real love, the power of God. And through more trials, including a prison term and a crash that left him helpless, he found his purpose in life. “I know we can make a difference in the lives of hurting children,” Tony says, “no matter how old they are.” Angel with Crooked Feet is the inspiring story that demonstrates the truth of that promise.

Will Living Together Bring You Closer-or Drive You Apart? You're about to make a decision that will take your life in a totally new direction-one that will have a lasting impact on you and someone you love. If you're wrestling with that decision, that's all to the good, because now is the time to stop and set your emotions gently aside-a time to sort through your own feelings, as well as other people's opinions about what's best for you. The basic message of Before You Live Together is candid, caring and thoughtful-one that uses true stories to illustrate different living-together situations and their outcomes. It also addresses the basic questions and issues you may have asked yourself, including: Is this the best way to find out if we're compatible? Why do we need a piece of paper to tell us we're committed to each other? It's so much cheaper than paying two rents, isn't it? While this book presents biblical values in a compelling and loving way, it never lectures, but instead seeks to help you decide what is best for both of you. Read it for yourself. Read it with the one you love. Read it to make the right decision at the time when it matters most.

      By: Alexander Strauch

Written for those who want to know more about the biblical teachings on gender but don't have time to read lengthy tomes on the subject, this small book is also perfect for high school and college students. It addresses one of the most significant changes that has occurred in human history: the gender revolution. Like the rest of society, Christianity has been permanently affected by this change. In reality, the gender transformation taking place within the world wide Christian community is a radical departure from biblical, apostolic Christianity. Men and Women: Equal Yet Different presents the complementarian perspective that men and women are equal yet different, and introduces the key terms, arguments, Scripture passages and research related to this position. Each chapter includes questions for group study.

Nine Marks of a Healthy Church
      By: Mark Dever

Listen to what Joshua Harris says about Nine Marks,
"How is the church supposed to act? What does it mean for a church to be faithful? How can you tell whether a church is succeeding or not? But is size the measure of success? we all know the right answer is no, but I wonder how many of us truly believe it deep down - or how many of us know what to use to measure success in its place.
Mark Dever loves the local church. He is passionate about evangelism and reaching the lost. He wants to see God glorified. He wants to see the church faithfully representing the Gospel, not mirroring the culture."

While not exhaustive, the nine marks of health are plenty to start with!

For decades Americans have tried to keep up with the Jones. But never in the history of our country have so many tried so desperately to surpass the Jones. Most Americans have become completely preoccupied with self-gratification and getting ahead. And unfortunately, this attitude has infiltrated the Christian community. So what does the Bible say? Is the recent lack of financial giving in most churches indicative of deeper spiritual problems?

Refuting Evolution

The National Academy of Science developed a text for teaching evolution in public schools several years ago. This publication makes little attempt at hiding their cynicism toward those who hold to a view other than evolution.

Dr.Sarafati wrote "Evolution Refuted" as a response to the NAS publication. This book is a valuable asset for understanding the myths surrounding the way evolution is presented in the classroom. Dr. Sarafati has since written an additional book refuting NAS claims.

This book is a must for all who are in high school and college.

The Christian Husband

No man should get married without reading this book.
No married man should waste any time in reading the book and applying the biblical truths in it.

Bob Lepine uses his great sense of humor to bring home some meaty truths. Listen to what he says at the conclusion of chapter seven, "If your objective in marriage is to have a calm, peaceful friendly relationship with a woman who trades you domestic chores and sex for a part of your paycheck and domestic security, you can ignore the call of God to be a prophetic husband [a husband who hears from God]. But if your goal is a marriage where God is glorified, where each partner is growing in his or her knowledge of the Savior and being sanctified daily by His Spirit, and where two souls are being knit together in true intimacy, it is necessary for you to assume the prophetic mantle as you lead your wife and family."

The Cost of Discipleship
      By: Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Bonhoeffer was executed less than a month before the end of world war II. He held the belief that Hitler was wrong and Christians should take a stand against Naziism.

In "Cost of Discipleship", he contrasts what he calls "cheap grace" and "costly grace". Cheap grace is the "...preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance." Costly grace he says, "...is the treasure hidden in the field; for the sake of it a man will gladly go and sell all that he has." Bonhoeffer's passion was discipleship, and in his book he shares his passion for following the admonition of God to "Make Disciples" (Mt.28.19-20)

"The justification of the sinner in the world degenerated into the justification of sin and the world. Costly grace was turned into cheap grace without discipleship."

Not the easiest read probably, but worth the effort! I would suggest you watch the movie of his life before you read Cost of Discipleship.

Gary Chapman helps couples discover their love language and assists them in communicating with their spouse in their language.

The Freedom and Power of Forgiveness
      By: John F. MacArthur

Forgiveness isn't a casual concept. God takes it seriously. So seriously that he has not given us an option in the matter. Obedience to His Word is essential. There can be no intimacy with God and no love for others in a heart where bitterness and unforgiveness dwell. But where there is forgiveness, there is freedom. Spiritual power. Emotional healing. And sweet fellowship. Where there is forgiveness, there is a heart that God has touched - and a life that God can bless.

Understanding End Times Prophecy
     A Comprehensive Approach
      By: Paul N. Benware

Many Christians think of end times prophecy as a gigantic, intimidating puzzle -- difficult to piece together and impossible to figure out. But every puzzle can be solved if you approach it the right way. Paul Benware compares prophecy to a picture puzzle. Putting the edge pieces together first builds the 'framework' that makes it easier to fit the other pieces in their place. According to Benware, the framework for eschatology is the biblical covenants. He begins his comprehensive survey by explaining the major covenants. Then he discusses several different interpretations of end times prophecy. Benware digs into the details of the Rapture, the Great Tribulation, the judgements and resurrections, and the millennial kingdom. But he also adds a unique, personal element to the study, answering questions as:-Why study bible prophecy?-What difference does it make if I'm premillenial or amillenial? If what the Bible says about the future puzzles you, Understanding End Times Prophecy will help you put together the pieces and see the big picture.

Eldredge brings out the need for allowing boys to be pioneers, adventurers, et.al. This can be disturbing at times for moms as they try to understand their sons.
